QuickTime reader colors for mjpb-encoded data differ from QTJava results

The native QuickTime reader handles the mjpb codec (Motion JPEG-B) but the colors come out differently than if the file is read with the legacy QuickTime implementation using QTJava. In particular, the contrast is reduced, as though the color range has been compressed somehow. Unfortunately, simply rescaling the color range (i.e., autocontrast) does not seem to produce the same results given by the QTJava reader either. I asked about this problem on the quicktime-java mailing list some time ago, but was unable to track down its ultimate cause.
