For the v3.5 release, some GUI panels should be consolidated or moved around a bit, to make things less cumbersome. For example, the display controls have multiple sections (Appearance, Data and Position) that could be placed into a JTabbedPane. The breakaway panel could be separated from the display with a JSplitPane.

More ambitiously, each linked data object's controls could also appear as a tab in the display controls's JTabbedPane, or something similar. Some widgets could be reorganized to produce a better shape (width/height ratio, etc.). With a little thought, it may even be possible to eliminate some clunky buttons (e.g., "Edit" in the Data pane), though whether to do so should be considered carefully.
